First Mitt Romney lost the election and now he’s become the laughingstock of the nation.
The former Massachusetts governor topped GQ‘s list of 20 Least Influential People of 2012, released in their December issue. “Was anyone inspired by Mitt Romney? Did anyone vote enthusiastically for Mitt Romney?” the magazine asked. “Of course not. Voting for Romney is like hooking up with the last single person at the bar at 4 a.m.” They went on to rejoice that there would be no more of Romney’s winsome looks off-camera “with that attempted smile on his face.”
But the ridicule didn’t stop there.
On Tuesday, the satirical news organization The Onion posted a joke story, showing a ragged, semi-delusional Romney giving a campaign speech in an Ohio Safeway store. “Sources confirmed the filth-covered former presidential candidate walked into the store unannounced early yesterday evening, went to the store’s cereal aisle, and started to play Kid Rock’s “Born Free” on a portable boom box, enthusiastically waving and pointing to no one in particular,” the Onion article reported. In the fake story, Romney was later dragged out of the building by police officers, after wife Ann was unable to coax him out of the store.
About a week ago, a photo of Romney pumping gas at a station was posted on Reddit, showing the former GOP presidential candidate looking “tired and washed up,” according to the picture taker.
President Obama hasn’t written Romney off, however. The two recent opponents are scheduled to meet at the White House on Thursday, according to The Associated Press. Romney is also slated to meet with his former vice presidential candidate, Congressman Paul Ryan, while in Washington, AP also reported.
Since the election, Romney has seemingly tried to lay low, despite the negative media furor. He has not done any public appearances and was photographed at Disneyland with his family. He was also supposedly spotted viewing the latest “Twilight” film with Ann, TMZ reported. The AP story confirms that Romney is going to move into an office in son Tagg’s venture capital firm, Solamere Capital, in the Boston area.
It seems like Romney might have a great comeback to the media’s firestorm: he’s still rich.
