Andrew Breitbart is arguably the most explosive personality in the conservative movement. He’s opinionated, outspoken and completely fearless. Similarly, his address at CPAC 2012 embodied all of those traits.
Before emerging on the stage to a packed (and eagerly awaiting) audience, a trailer for the upcoming film Hating Breitbart was shown, ending with him looking straight into the camera and saying a big “F— You” to the those in the liberal establishment hell bent on destroying him.
By the time he arrived on the stage, in jeans and sneakers looking like he needed a shave, the crowd was ebullient and on their feet applauding.
His first order of business? Heckling the “Occupy Freaks” as he called them, who had been busy protesting the conference, entering the hotel at one point.
“Bring on the glitter!” he yelled, referring to one of the left’s favorite tactics—the glitterbomb.
His remarks were typical Breitbart, with targeted insults at Keith Olberman, Al Sharpton and Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn, who Breitbat recently had dinner with in what he referred to as “the Superbowl Party from hell.”
His main argument is the Occupy Movement is not what they say they are: a new organically grown movement similar to the Tea Party. He insists, rather, they’re the continuation of the Anti-War movement that began in the 1960s, which he said Dohrn essentially admitted at their dinner.
“These people [the Occupiers] are the definition of Anti-American,” he said, earning huge applause.
After some bashing of the liberal media, calling Al Sharpton’s talk show on MSNBC pure Dada-ism, the subject of the upcoming election came up.
“If we don’t get behind one candidate, we lose,” he told the crowd after saying he didn’t care who the candidate was, he was going to do all he could to support them. “We’re on two paths, one is America, one is Occupy,” he declared so firmly and to such applause he repeated it—twice.
He ended with the promise to “get in the bunker” with anyone that wants to take a stand against the intolerance that the left often shows conservatives. His final words?
“If you’re not with us, you’re on the other side.”
