Saturday Night Live brought back Larry Sanders to play Bernie Sanders in their “Cold Open” of Thursday’s Brooklyn debate.
In her introduction, Hillary Clinton noted that while she can’t wait to be president, she won’t be getting ahead of herself, “in public. In private, I’ve been president for 15 years.”
Sanders assured the crowd that he is not the elite, and he puts his pants on just like the rest, “I sit on the edge of the bed and Jane pulls them up for me.” In his call for more debates, Sanders assured the audience “when people hear my message, it resonates loud and clear. Because I always talk like I’m on the other side of a river.”
The segment also made note of Hillary’s success with black voters, with a question from CNN’s “black moderator, Errol Louis.” When Hillary tried to expand on her love for blacks, Wolf Blitzer cut her off, warning “you already have the black vote, don’t ruin it.”
In questions from real New Yorkers, Host Julia Louis-Dryfus appeared as Seinfeld’s Elaine Benes to ask Sanders about “a big bank break-up,” which he was unable to get too specific about.
Hillary referred to Elaine as “my sister friend.” Elaine assured her she “was by far the funniest, I mean the most qualified.” She told Sanders he was bald.
Rachel Green from Friends appeared, though she failed to ask a proper question in her time, and the candidates dismissed the opportunity to hear from Cosby’s Cliff Huxtable. “I need black voters, but not that bad,” Sanders noted.
Elaine returned to ask if high taxes could be bad actors and creators of sitcoms, with Sanders admitting she should just vote for Hillary.
