[WATCH] This lawyer’s commercial is as classic, comical and confusing as it gets

The only thing clear in this South Dakota lawyer’s commercial is its complete lack of clarity.

Scott Hoy, a personal injury trial lawyer in Sioux Falls, appears in an advertisement that attempts to raise awareness about “one-car accidents” involving “rollovers and serious injuries to passengers.” Though he begins to talk with conviction and purpose, Hoy stops making sense pretty quickly.

“I don’t know if it’s video games or what, but it’s so unfair to, after something like this, to blame people in the backseat or say they deserved it,” Hoy says. Huh?

“I don’t like consoling these parents about what’s happened,” he continues. “But I’ll do it until it stops. Will you please stop?” Say what?

According to the website for his firm, Hoy Trial Lawyers, “We understand that you have many questions regarding your case. Questions like, why did this happen and when will things get better? In the criminal context, many questions arise, such as, how do I make the best out of a bad situation? Here at Hoy Trial Lawyers, Prof. LLC, we will work hard to answer these questions on your behalf in and out of court.”

Hoy’s video only appears to raise questions. Nevertheless, he’s been “ruefully good-natured” about the response he’s received, reports the Argus Leader out of Sioux Falls.

“I certainly didn’t have any idea when I got out of bed this morning that this is what I was going to be talking about today,” said Hoy, who returned to Sioux Falls this morning after taking his father, Tex Hoy, on a trip to celebrate the older Hoy’s 85th birthday.

The paper says that Hoy has been writing his own commercials for about 20 years.
