Kim Davis makes Jennifer Lawrence ’embarrassed’ to be from Kentucky

In an interview with Jennifer Lawrence, Vanity Fair referred to the young Oscar winner as having “a rabble-rousing spirit… that gets stirred up when certain subjects are broached.” That’s certainly one way of putting it.

The Nov. 11 interview took place the day Kim Davis was released from jail. Lawrence, who, like Davis is from Kentucky, brought her up and had not very kind words to say. Lawrence referred to her as the “lady who makes me embarrassed to be from Kentucky. She even mentioned “don’t even say her name in this house.”

Lawrence had harsh words not just for Davis, but those with similar beliefs. In what Vanity Fair describes as “a rant,” she talks about all those people “holding their crucifixes, which may as well be pitchforks, thinking they’re fighting the good fight. I grew up in Kentucky. I know how they are.”

While she “was raised a Republican,” Lawrence “just can’t imagine supporting a party that doesn’t support women’s basic rights.” She also brought up the issue of same-sex marriage with how “it’s 2015 and gay people can get married and we think we’ve come so far, so yay! But have we? I don’t want to stay quiet about that stuff.”

Lawrence also deeply admires Jane Fonda, an actress who is known for her rather liberal politics.

There’s the remembered line from Lawrence about Donald Trump in this interview as well, that if he becomes president “it will be the end of the world.” Lawrence does believe “he’s also the best thing to happen to the Democrats ever,” however. Time will tell if Lawrence’s predictions come true, and if it is so “cut-and-dried” as she believes it to be.
