In NYC comptroller race, Eliot Spitzer will face madam who supplied him with escorts

In a dramatic — and slightly scandalous — turn of events, former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer will face a New York City madam in his bid to be the city’s comptroller.

Spitzer, who resigned from his position five years ago after being caught up in a prostitution scandal, is trying his hand at politics again.

“I’m hopeful there will be forgiveness,” he told The New York Times.

Even if his sexual escapades are forgiven, they might not be quickly forgotten — his opposition is Libertarian Kristin Davis, also know as “Madam Manhattan,” who supplied the former Governor with escorts in the past.

The 54-year-old disgraced ex-Governor announced his candidacy on Sunday night, several months after Davis decided to run.

Davis was convicted of promoting prostitution in 2008 and served four months in prison. She advocates the legalization of marijuana, according to her website. She’s also campaigning for smaller government and keeping taxes low.

Since his fall from prominence in 2008, Spitzer hasn’t had much luck.

The Democrat was briefly employed on the CNN show “Parker Spitzer” with conservative Kathleen Parker, launched in October 2010. But she quit the show after four months, leaving the former Governor to host the show himself, under the name “In the Arena.” The show was cancelled in July 2011, according to CBS News.

Following his stint with CNN, Spitzer hosted “Viewpoint with Eliot Spitzer” for less than a year, starting in 2012.
