Dear President Obama: A vote for Johnson is not a vote for Trump

President Obama recently said that a vote for a third-party candidate is a vote for Donald Trump.

Excuse me while I laugh.

After weeks of being bombarded by Republicans who’ve told me a vote for Johnson was a vote for Clinton, I am now being bombarded by Democrats telling me a vote for Johnson is a vote for Trump.

Which one is it?

Many Democrats will bring up Ralph Nader and how he supposedly cost the election for Al Gore. Clinton’s vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine complained that if Nader had just stayed out of the way, Bush would have lost and we would have never went into Iraq.

That’s ignoring the fact that 308,000 registered Democrats voted for Bush in Florida, and Gore would have most likely went into Iraq as well. Gore cast a vote for the Persian Gulf War and supported unilateral action against Iraq when the Clinton administration lobbed cruise missiles into Baghdad. Is it possible to see why hundreds of thousands of self-described “liberals” and registered Democrats voted for George W. Bush over Al Gore?

Obama conveniently ignores these truths because he wants to see his legacy continued through Hillary Clinton. He wants to see the Middle East continue to slide into chaos. He wants to see the Cold War with Russia continue to escalate. After all, Hillary Clinton has proposed a no-fly zone over Syria, which would lead to the shooting down of Russian and Syrian planes.

I’m sorry I don’t want to see the Middle East continue to be put on fire. I’m sorry I don’t want to arm jihadists or overthrow dictators and destabilize countries. Or to see spending continue to spiral out of control. Or to see the failed healthcare system continue to take hit after hit. I don’t want to continue to see the war on drugs imprison hundreds of thousands of people for nonviolent drug crimes. I don’t want to continue to see constitutional rights continue to be violated.

I’m tired of the status quo while President Obama wants to continue it with his support of Hillary Clinton.

I’m glad to see President Obama views the Libertarian ticket as a threat. I’m glad to see many of my fellow millennials reject both Clinton and Trump. It’s time we started having real choices and that means taking a stand against the two-party duopoly. It’s a breath of fresh air to see the two parties squirm over Gary Johnson and view him as a legitimate threat.

Please continue to squirm.

The simple truth is: A vote for Johnson is a vote for Johnson. Johnson is taking away votes from both parties, something that is astounding to see. He’s hurting both parties who have long believed they are entitled to your vote.

Let this sink in President Obama: Nobody owes either of the two major parties their vote.
