David Axelrod thinks Ready for Hillary is a “problem” for Hillary Clinton.
The former Obama advisor in an interview with Katie Couric for Yahoo! News expanded on why he has said in the past that the super PAC Ready for Hillary obscures Clinton’s candidacy for president.
“I’ve said Ready for Hillary doesn’t tell you what you’re ready [for],” explained Axelrod. “Ready for what? These are some of the problems that come along with her position in this race because people are so eager for her to be there that they started this organization and it isn’t her campaign.”
“They’re not articulating a vision that a candidate would articulate and yet there’s this cult of personality growing up,” he said of the PAC that is designed to encourage Clinton to run for president. “And that’s dangerous. She’s going to have to correct that when she becomes a candidate.”
Back in December, Axelrod voiced a similar concern on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” once again asking, “You hear ‘Ready for Hillary.’ It’s like, ‘Ready for what?'”
He warned then that Clinton’s candidacy is in danger of getting out in front of her message and rationale for running for the White House, an issue that Axelrod argued lost her the Democratic nomination to Obama back in 2008.
Yet, Ready for Hillary isn’t the only problem the former Obama advisor sees facing the former secretary of State. He wrote back in 2006 ahead of the 2008 primary that Clinton is “not a healing figure” and would face difficulty fashioning herself as a “candidate of the future.”
Considering Clinton hasn’t gotten any younger, one can assume that Axelrod’s opinion on her lack of 21st century viability remains the same.
