New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie blasted Republican frontrunner Donald Trump on Sunday for having a “simplistic” immigration policy not capable of solving such a vast challenge.

“In many ways, it’s just too simplistic. You know, the idea of building a wall, kicking everyone out and ending birthright citizenship, all sounds appealing to some folks. But I just think it’s a very complicated problem,” he said on CBS’s Face the Nation.

Christie continued to bash Trump without offering an alternative plan.

“It needs someone who understands how to do complicated and nuanced solution to the problem,” he continued. “And, you know, the fact is we can do this the right way. And we should do it the right way.”

Trump unveiled his immigration proposal earlier this month, involving a plan to secure the border, deport illegal immigrants, and reform legal immigration.

The plan received massive praise from most immigration restrictionists, but scorn from many establishment Republicans who would like to see legal immigration expanded and some form of legalization for the undocumented aliens.

Undoubtedly the most controversial point of Trump’s plan was his call to end birthright citizenship, which Christie outright rejected.

“I don’t think we should be looking to change it,” the presidential candidate said.

“The truth of the matter is that’s not something we should be focused on,” Christie added. “That’s an applause line. Let’s talk about the things we can fix and fix simply without having to amend the Constitution, where we’ll need, you know, two-thirds in Congress and 38 states to agree.”

Christie said that he understands the real feelings of the American people.

“I mean, the problem…is that people are just absolutely fed up with lawlessness in this country,” he continued. “I think the frustration people feel is to a Congress and a president, this president, who refuses to enforce the law.”
