This week actress Stacey Dash broke perhaps the most powerful cardinal rule that all famous African-Americans must adhere to by endorsing and defending Republican presidential Mitt Romney over the first black President Barack Obama.
Dash, famous for her role in the classic 90s film Clueless, endorsed Romney through her Twitter account on Sunday, writing that he was the “only choice for your future.”
Her two sentences set off a firestorm of ignorant, disgusting, and racially charged comments from numerous Twitter users. One such user wrote, “Kill yaself you old hag.” Another user added, “You’re an unemployed black woman endorsing Mitt Romney. You’re voting against yourself thrice. You poor beautiful idiot.”
Even famous actor and Obama supporter Samuel L. Jackson criticized Dash on twitter asking if she was “CRA”. (He presumably meant crazy.)
The ugly backlash was quickly followed by a wave of support from conservatives on and off twitter, culminating in Dash receiving a phone call from Republican Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan, who was gracious for her support.
On Wednesday night, Dash was the headline story on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight, where host Piers Morgan expressed his “disgust” for the comments and attacks made on Dash for simply expressing her opinion.
During the interview, Dash explained that although she had voted for President Obama in 2008, she felt that the “state of the country” required a change because she “wanted the next four years to be different.” She also said she didn’t “understand the fury” coming from liberals following her tweet.
“I don’t understand it. I don’t get it…I was shocked, saddened. Not angry. Saddened and really shocked. But you know what, you can’t expect everyone to agree with you,” she told Morgan.
The attacks on Stacey Dash display the hatred and intolerance that exists within the same segment of society that claims to be all about tolerance and caring for others. Dash joins the long list of center-right African-Americans who have been demonized by those on the left for being slaves for their white “conservative masters.” Mia Love, Herman Cain, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and many other African-American conservatives have been victims of this kind of hatred for decades.
But why?
The answer is that the entire existence of the progressive movement within the Democrat Party hinges on a no-questions-asked coalition between various minority groups who are told that the GOP is an “all white party” that is “hostile to blacks, gays, women and Hispanics.”
So when a minority speaks out against the Democratic Party, that individual is shouted down in order for the coalition to survive. It doesn’t matter to these far-left individuals that Stacey Dash was able to articulate very real and sincere arguments for supporting Mitt Romney. All that matters is that she violated the not-so-unwritten rule that blacks belong to the progressive movement.
