Young people were outside the Supreme Court yesterday in full force to make their voices heard in response to the court’s Obamacare ruling.
Although the number of young people in favor of Obamacare outside the court outnumbered the young people against it, both groups represented in their own unique ways.
Before the ruling was announced tension and uncertainty filled the air between both sides. Many of the young adults at the Supreme Court admitted they were happy that under Obamacare they would be covered under their parent’s healthcare until they were 26 and expressed their beliefs that “healthcare is a human right.” However, a fair number of students also said they didn’t believe it was the government’s job to mandate people to buy anything.
Once the decision was announced there was a buzz in the air and rumors began flying around about what the true ruling was. There was an awkward five minute period where neither side knew whether to celebrate or not.
Once the ruling was settled the Tea Party presence had a rally of speakers including Michele Bachmann, who energized the crowd and promised to never to stop working toward repeal.
While conservatives stayed on the positive note of energizing their base at the rally, young liberals did the exact opposite. Instead of having speakers to bring excitement to their crowd many of them held megaphones and attempted to drown out conservative speakers, shouting profanities such as “F*** Mitt Romney?” and “Michele Bachmann lies!”
