Howard Dean: Republicans Never “Gave A Damn” About The Constitution

In a speech to a group of progressives in Washington D.C. on Tuesday, former Governor of Vermont Howard Dean (D), blasted several noted Republicans, whom he thought were hindering the progressive agenda of the Left.

In response to the recent Supreme Court rulings regarding campaign finance laws, Dean lambasted Republicans for their large campaign donations, and accused them of never giving a damn about the Constitution in the first place.

Dean also gave praise to Obama’s recent Supreme Court additions of Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan. He was critical of the other justices who are generally viewed as conservative, saying, “Clarence Thomas, Scalia, Alito, and John Roberts, are wrecking this country.”

Shifting his focus to Republican donors, Dean pleaded with the audience not to buy Brawny brand paper towels, which are made by a company owned by the Koch Brothers.

Dean had large amounts of praise for the progressive Congressmen that were in attendance however, praising fellow panelist Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) as being a “real Democrat”, and Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) as being “slightly more progressive than Bernie Sanders.”

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), an avowed socialist, has been a tireless advocate for progressive taxation of the rich.

Dean’s speech was part of a panel discussion titled 99 Percent: Building Progressive Power in 2012, the purpose of which was to educate individuals about focusing on a progressive agenda when running for office.
