Clinton staffer subpoenaed to testify before House committee

A former State Department staffer tied to Hillary Clinton’s email server has been subpoenaed to appear at a Congressional investigation.

Bryan Pagliano, who worked for the 2008 Clinton presidential campaign and set up her private email server, had his lawyer send a letter to the House panel leading an investigation into Clinton’s role with the U.S. consulate attack in Benghazi, Libya in 2012, according to the Washington Post.

The House investigation is one of five surrounding Clinton and her work at the State Department.

Pagliano isn’t the only Clinton aide that an investigation is interested in. Clinton’s Deputy Chief of Staff Jake Sillivan and Chief of Staff Cheryl Mills have also been involved.

Mills requested an open hearing, but her request was denied, and she testified in a closed-door hearing. Sullivan will appear in front of the House committee on Friday.

Pagliano, however, is asserting his Fifth Amendment right not to answer questions to avoid self-incrimination.

The subpoena, or testifying in front of a committee, does not necessarily mean that person is suspected of any wrongdoing.

The committee investigating Benghazi is led by Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.). The ranking Democrat, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), has accused Gowdy’s leadership of the committee, calling it politically motivated to smear Clinton and her chances for the presidential nomination.
