Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry specifically addressed young Americans during the announcement of his presidential campaign in Dallas Thursday afternoon.

Perry specifically promised that he would stop the “theft” from the Millennial generation by fixing the entitlement system.

“Debt is not just a fiscal nightmare, it is a moral failure,” explained Perry to a crowd of supporters in Texas. “Let me speak to the Millennial generation: massive debt, passed on from our generation to yours, is a breaking of the social compact.”

“You deserve better,” he added. “I am going to offer a responsible plan to fix the entitlement system, and to stop this theft from your generation.”

Perry, who ran unsuccessfully for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012, also committed to securing the nation’s border, approving the Keystone XL pipeline and rescinding any nuclear weapons agreement with Iran should he win the White House in 2016.

The Texas Republican called for “clear-sighted, proven leadership” in our next president, couching President Obama as a commander in chief elected “based on media acclaim” instead of a substantial record of success.

With his announcement, Perry joins an already extremely crowd Republican field vying for the 2016 nomination.
