YAF chapter at Virginia Tech holds ‘Funeral for Halloween’

The P.C. (politically correct) Police have slaughtered Halloween.

It’s not merely college campus officials freaking out over Halloween costumes. It’s also some of the students themselves. In the name of “sensitivity,” because when is it not, the Virginia Tech Student Government issued guidelines and a Facebook event of “My Culture is Not a Costume Imitative.”

Young Americans for Freedom certainly had something to say about this politically correct initiative. In addition to a statement, the YAF chapter at Virginia Tech also hosted a “Funeral for Halloween.”

Red Alert Politics spoke with the chapter’s chair, Lauren McCue. She mentioned how the student government threw around the term “cultural appropriation” often and that her members got the idea for the event as a result of discussion on the Facebook event page.

McCue mentioned that the idea of the event was to raise awareness. She said the student government was “making it “very political and very serious and very much of a downer.” Her group wants to “make Halloween fun again, make it lighthearted, and they’re killing it.”

The event, which took place on campus from 11a.m. until 3p.m. McCue said that some students said certain costumes could be offensive even if that was not intended. But, the event was very successful and positive with hundreds of students passing by the table.

To complete the look of a “funeral,” the group included a casket on the ground with Halloween costumes.

McCue expressed excitement in being able to bring their activism events close to home at Virginia Tech. While they do do national events, McCue pointed out that “limited government starts at the campus level.”
