MSNBC host Chuck Todd said Tuesday that President Obama will be “a man on an island” if the Republicans take control of the Senate in the midterm election.
“I think he becomes a man on an island,” explained Todd of the Democratic president who will be suddenly surrounded by Republicans should the GOP sail to victory Tuesday. “I think he’s going to … probably make some attempts to recalibrate in some form or another, make the effort to reach out.”
Ironically, President Obama was just that — a man on an island — for half the month of August when he vacationed on Martha’s Vineyard as crises ensued across our nation and over the globe.
Todd also surmised that Democrats will place all the blame on Obama if they lose their majority in the Senate. Moreover, he suggested that Democrats might continue to distance themselves from the president to better set their party up for the 2016 presidential race.
“I think Democrats could start running away from him even faster if they lose the Senate tonight because all of them will feel as if this was on him and they may just start saying, you know what, it’s time to focus on ’16,” explained Todd.
The MSNBC host added that Democrats will likely “second guess themselves” on their strategy of distancing themselves from Obama during the campaigns ahead of the midterm election.
While Republicans made it their priority to associate their opponents with the president, Democrats “didn’t really have a counteroffensive message,” according to Todd.
