They call him George Stephan-OOPS-oulos.
ABC News chief anchor George Stephanopoulos has donated $50,000 to the Clinton Foundation in the form of charitable donations. The problem is that the “This Week” host did not publicly disclose these gifts.
From Politico:
Stephanopoulos caved to his mistake Thursday in a statement.
“I made charitable donations to the foundation in support of the work they’re doing on global AIDS prevention and deforestation, causes I care about deeply,” he confirmed. “I thought that my contributions were a matter of public record. However, in hindsight, I should have taken the extra step of personally disclosing my donations to my employer and to the viewers on air during the recent news stories about the Foundation. I apologize.”
Who does he think he is, Brian Williams?!
It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Stephanopoulos would demonstrate his support for the Clintons. After all, he served as communications director and senior advisor for policy and strategy during the Clinton Administration as well as fulfilling the role of communications director on Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign.
ABC News backed up Stephanopoulos in its own statement, admitting that while he “should have taken the extra step” to ensure the disclosure of the donations, those at the network nevertheless forgive his “honest mistake” and “stand behind him.” ABC will not punish its star anchor for the error.
