As President Obama and his campaign attempt to woo the American voters with more promises of hope and change, he appears to be passing over several events that include a large majority of the Democrat base.
This week, the president will be a no-show at the NAACP convention in Houston Texas, instead appearing at four separate campaign events and fundraisers on Monday and Tuesday.
During yesterday’s White House Press Briefing, Press Secretary Jay Carney gave the following explanation for Obama’s absence at the NAACP Convention:
“But again, he’s [Obama] spoken before the organization in the past, he met with Ben Jealous last year,” Carney said. “His Vice President is speaking this year.”
In addition to skipping out on the NAACP gathering, President Obama also is not scheduled to appear at Campus Progress 2012, a national conference gathering for progressive college student activists. Although progressive college students essentially carried the water for his last presidential campaign in 2008, Obama has not addressed the group since 2006, when he was still a U.S. Senator from Illinois.
At the recent Take Back The Dream 2012 progressive conference coordinated by former White House Green Jobs Czar Van Jones, some of the top progressive activists in the country gathered to preach support for the President amidst his abysmal record. One would think that even with such a bad record, the POTUS might join them and at least address them with a message of thanks. Not President Obama.
With so many absences at top progressive gatherings, one can only wonder whether or not President Obama is truly focused on the issues he claims to support, or is simply focused on raising every possible dollar he can gather.
