The Iran deal is certainly a hot topic. But some voters in Florida are so passionate about it that they are calling on their Congresswoman to resign over her announced support for the deal. And she just so happens to be the DNC Chair.
Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz represents the 23rd district, which is around the Miami area. She announced and explained her support for the Iran deal on Sept. 6 to the Miami Herald.
While she admits that the “agreement is not perfect,” Wasserman Schultz still believes “that the agreement promotes the national security interests of the United States and our allies…”
Many don’t share her support though. And an August Quinnipiac poll revealed that Florida residents in particular oppose the deal 61 to 25 percent.
The Examiner reported that hundreds of protestors appeared outside Wasserman Schultz’s Aventura office last week to urge her to vote no.
Some unhappy constituents also spoke to the Examiner. David Leo is a leader of the “Wasserman Schultz Must Go” movement. He had strong words for her decision:
Leo calls it “an irrefutable fact” that “with Debbie it’s all about Debbie.” He also believes that hundreds of thousands of voters will sign the petition being circulated around South Florida calling for an immediate resignation. And does he believe that she will not be re-elected? “Count on it,” he says.
Wasserman Schultz may now find herself in trouble after such a decision, especially with the Jewish community. The Iran agreement looks like it could have political as well as international ramifications.
