Remember Gosnell? Clinton celebrates ‘safe’ abortion after SCOTUS ruling [Opinion]

Hillary Clinton hailed Monday’s Supreme Court ruling on abortion as a “victory for women.” The decision struck down a Texas regulation on abortion clinics that merely required these clinics to meet health standards.

Five Supreme Court Justices saw issue with two regulations: that these abortion clinics have a hospital in close proximity in case of emergency, and that the clinics be held to the same standard as surgical centers, as far as cleanliness is concerned. These regulations do nothing but protect the health of women in assuring that these buildings are safe, clean, and have a hospital in close distance in case the life of the mother is endangered.

The majority opinion in the Supreme Court ruled that the laws pose an ‘undue burden’ on women seeking abortions. The ruling exempts abortion clinics from any health standards that other surgical centers must meet, even though abortion advocates want this service to be legitimate, and covered by taxpayer-funded healthcare. The majority Supreme Court opinion argued that these regulations were a ploy to shut down abortion clinics, when in reality, the state of Texas was doing its due-diligence to keep women seeking these procedures safe.

Mrs. Clinton tweeted in response to the decision:

What Mrs. Clinton, the self-proclaimed “champion for women,” fails to admit is that this decision is far from a victory for women. She claims that safe abortion must be a right, yet praises this Supreme Court ruling that allows abortion to be carried out unsafely, with no standards. This ruling puts the health of any woman who visits an abortion clinic at risk.

Unbeknownst to anyone, the clinic could be infected with diseases and abortions could be performed unsafely. For all these women know, without these regulations, the clinics could be similar to that of Kermit Gosnell.

Young women in particular often visit these clinics alone or without any of their family or friends knowing. These regulations would ensure that these young girls are safe and do not contract anything from these clinics. According to the Orlando Women’s Center, 50 percent of all abortions obtained in the United States are for women under the age of 25. Teenagers account for 17 percent of all abortions. Without these regulations, abortion clinics have the potential to endanger the lives so many young women. A 17-year-old girl could seek an abortion, likely alone, at one of these clinics, receive an unsafe abortion and be nowhere near a hospital where she can receive legitimate medical attention if a complication were to occur.

The issue in this case is not the existence of the abortion clinics; these regulations were not proposed in order to shut them down. The issue is the hypocrisy of abortion advocates and Hillary Clinton, who want “safe” abortions, and for abortion to be considered a legitimate medical service, yet they will not hold clinics to the same health standards as surgical centers.
