MoneyRates.com has ranked the 50 states in order of which ones are most friendly and beneficial to young Americans. The website selected the list based on some obvious factors, such as youth unemployment, rental rates and demographics, as well as some less obvious criteria, such as the availability of fitness centers and high-speed Internet.
“A young adult starting out today would benefit from a place with plenty of opportunity, reasonable living costs and just enough lifestyle amenities to keep things interesting,” the website wrote.
Here are the top 10 states where young people should put down roots. Fair warning: These aren’t necessarily the most fun or exciting states.

2. South Dakota
3. Nebraska
4. Montana
5. Iowa
6. Hawaii
7. Oklahoma
8. Louisiana
9. Massachusetts
10. Utah
