First lady Michelle Obama is on a quest to get young people’s attention.
The White House announced Monday in a press release that the first lady is joining Upworthy as a “guest curator.” The move comes as part of her “Reach Higher” initiative in which she attempts to engage with young people and encourage them to “reach higher” than merely a high school education.
“Reach Higher” shoots to accomplish President Obama’s “North Star” goal: “that by 2020, America will once again have the highest proportion of college graduates in the world.”
According to the release, the first lady will share things on the site that “inspire America’s young people to take charge of their future.”
Obama’s first post, horribly entitled, “I Really Hope The Parents Of These People Get To See What They Said Here. They’d Probably Cry,” touts the importance of on-campus orientation and includes a few personal tidbits about Michelle’s unpreparedness for higher education.
The short post also includes a video of Kansas State University students chronicling their difficulties beginning college. The clip was created by the Kansas State College of Education as part of a documentary about first generation college students.
Perhaps this marks the first lady’s attempt to detract from her husband’s poor grade for his education policies.
What’s more, Michelle Obama doesn’t only want to engage with young people on the subject of higher education. She is also trying to win them over in the healthy food fight, most recently appearing in the Funny or Die video “Snackpocalypse.”
