President Barack Obama invited a previous White House resident to lunch yesterday, but it wasn’t former President Bill Clinton. It was his wife, Hillary.
The two Democrats met on the patio outside the Oval Office for what the White House called “a chance to catch up,” but the meeting sparked media speculation that the former co-workers might be talking about how to launch a 2016 run for Clinton.
“ As you know, over the course of the last four years — and as much as been written about over the last four years — how Secretary Clinton and the President have developed not just a strong working relationship but also a genuine friendship,” spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters at the daily briefing Monday, according to a transcript from the White House. “And so it’s largely friendship that’s on the agenda for the lunch today.”
Clinton was also scheduled to breakfast with Vice President — and potential 2016 rival for the Democratic nomination — Joe Biden on Tuesday, according to a White House release.
