A gunman was reported at the Community College of Philadelphia Tuesday morning. The campus was put into lockdown and fortunately no shots were fired. Reuters reports that the suspect is in custody.
The school was at lockdown around eleven this morning, with the suspect apprehended before noon.
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey told reporters however that the incident didn’t seem to be related to a social media posting warning from Monday or about the shooting last week in Oregon.
Rather, it was between two people. A student was threatened and a complaint was made, since the student knew the man had a weapon.
Fortunately the crisis was averted. The campus has about 15,000 students, making it the largest public institution of higher education in the city.
The school has been tweeting out updated. The campus will remain closed for the rest of the day but operate again on normal hours on Wednesday.
Exit campus in a calm, orderly fashion. Normal class schedules and business operations resume Wednesday. Updates at http://t.co/Dy5dMutjHv.
