Wal-Mart will no longer sell AR-15s

Somewhere in Michigan, Michael Moore is treating himself to an extra bowl of ice cream at the announcement that Wal-Mart will no longer sell AR-15s.

The largest retailer in America made the announcement Wednesday that their stores will no longer carry the AR-15 and other semi-automatic rifles because they do not sell very well, reported the Associated Press.

“It’s based on what customers are looking for and what they were buying when they come into Wal-Mart. It’s very similar to what we do with other products. If there’s not customer demand there, we’ll phase out,” said Wal-Mart spokesman Kory Lundberg.

The store announced that they plan on stocking up on more weapons such as shotguns.

This change is inventory shouldn’t come as a total surprise as CEO Douglas McMillon previously hinted that the move was on its way.

“Our focus in terms of firearms should be hunters and people who shoot sporting clays, and things like that. So the types of rifles we sell, the types of ammunition we sell, should be curated for those things,” McMillon told CNNMoney in June.

The company insists the move is strictly financial and not political.
