[LISTEN] Red Alert contributor Michael Moroney talks about unpaid internships with NPR

Red Alert Politics contributor Michael Moroney was interviewed by NPR‘s ‘On the Media,’ speaking about the benefit of unpaid internships.

Michael, director of communications at The Franklin Center for Government and Public Integrity, argued that unpaid internships aren’t as terrible as some people portray them to be. He said that most internships, regardless of their tasks and job requirements, supply young people with valuable connections, adding that most big-time media figures likely got their starts doing menial tasks.

He also stressed that suing internship providers could result in more paid internships, but fewer internships overall.

And sometimes the best internships are the ones that reveal to the intern that the field they were interested in is not where they want to pursue a career.
