Carly Fiorina holds position on immigration from 2010

Despite pegging herself as a moderate conservative, businesswoman and Republican candidate for President, Carly Fiorina is standing firm against amnesty for illegal immigrants and placing herself to the right of moderates like Sen. Marco Rubio and Gov. Jeb Bush.

Fiorina told Breitbart News Monday, “Immigration is a situation where people have lost faith in the political class because we have had so many long-standing problems… The border has not been secure for a very long time.”

She later followed with saying, “I think the privilege of citizenship should be left to those who worked hard and did it the right way.”

Fiorina held a similar position in 2010 when she ran for the U.S. Senate against Sen. Barbara Boxer.

She stated during her campaign that she supported Arizona’s SB 1070, which opposed funding sanctuary cities and granting amnesty to illegal immigrants. However, she did support the DREAM Act, a bill to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants who came here.

This is a very bold position to take for someone running in California.

In spite of her stance she was able to increase the percentages of all ethnic minorities that cast their vote for Republicans compared to six years earlier, capturing 35 percent of the Asian vote, 28 percent of the Hispanic, and 17 percent of the black vote.

Republican candidates for federal office usually have a much more difficult time courting minority votes than those seeking statewide office.

Fiorina’s campaign has thus far avoided attacking fellow Republicans and has focused specifically on Hillary Clinton. Clinton is the likely Democratic nominee and Fiorina is casting herself as the alternative female choice in this election.
