North Carolina entrepreneur Jay Faison is investing in a big push to get the Republican Party to start acknowledging climate change as a serious issue.
The businessman is spending $165 million on a social media and online advertising campaign to get the GOP to stop acting as skeptics on the issue, according to Politico. The push will be run through the 501(c)(3) ClearPath Foundation, the website for which launched Tuesday.
Furthermore, Faison will invest another $10 million into a political advocacy operation with the same goal of pushing the party toward the green energy movement.
“I always felt a little alone out there as a Republican, and so I started ClearPath to create a dialogue around this in a way that hadn’t been done before and sort of be part of the solution,” explained Faison, adding that he believes “there are real Republican solutions to the problem” of global warming.
The ClearPath website offers plenty of educational content on clean energy, including studies and data regarding electric vehicles, solar power and the like.
Faison is confident that his movement will both satisfy and benefit many Republican voters.
“There’s a lot of center-right Republicans that feel like they don’t have a voice in this issue, and surveys would say they’re eager to share this information to bring other people along with them,” he explained. “Even in small percentages, that’s in the millions.”
