The “established trend” of liberal commencement speakers outnumbering conservatives continues unabated. Liberal speakers outnumber conservatives by 40 percent, according to a survey from Young America’s Foundation (YAF).
Of the top 100 universities from U.S. News & World Report, 45 commencement speakers are liberal, but only 12 are conservative.
The tally amounts to 53 percent liberal speakers, 14 percent conservative, and 29 percent with an “unclear ideology.” At the top 10 schools, nine speakers are liberal.
The list of 12 conservatives is even more sad when analyzed. Moderates including Michael Bloomberg and Larry Ellison count as conservative, and of the others, “most are not prominent, national figures.”
“Our nation’s colleges and universities are doing students a grave disservice by failing to provide balanced educational experiences. This is a clear illustration of that failure. Our country is brimming with articulate conservative leaders with important experiences to share, many of whom are far more qualified than Hollywood leftists like Matt Damon to offer their wisdom,” noted YAF President Ron Robinson.
Matt Damon will be speaking at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on June 3.
