Anderson Cooper and David Letterman mock Obama, Biden for skipping Paris unity march

CNN anchor Anderson Cooper switched roles and played guest on David Letterman’s “The Late Show” Tuesday night. The two discussed the past weekend’s inspiring march in Paris and the throngs of people coming together for one cause, when Cooper slid in a sly joke.

“And to see President Obama there was just extraordinary,” he said.

Obama did not attend the Paris Unity March, though at least 40 other world leaders attended the rally.

Letterman asked why Obama did not attend the rally, Cooper added, “Or the vice president! I mean he spends weekends watching, like Gilmore Girls on his DVR. I mean, what else does the vice president do?

Letterman brought up the White House’s excuses that it was too last minute and that Obama’s presence would have “upstaged the event,” but Cooper downplayed that.

“That’s basically what vice presidents exist for. I’m not sure what he was doing that weekend. Eric Holder was there in Paris. Secretary of State John Kerry is now supposed to go,” Cooper said.

“What a great statement it would have been, not only for this country, but for the global concern of this kind of attack, if the president himself had actually attended,” Letterman replied.

Cooper agreed that it was “certainly a missed opportunity” for the United States.
