Men’s magazine GQ has released its list of “The Least Influential People of 2012,” and both Mitt Romney and Michelle Obama have wound up making the cut.
GQ criticized the First Lady for her campaign against obesity, something the magazine views as a failure. It gives her some credit for trying and blames Americans more than Mrs. Obama, and then invites her to join “the winning team” and eat some ice cream.
The magazine also lambastes the former Massachusetts governor for not being inspirational and failing to smile genuinely. This isn’t the first time Romney has faced some post-election derision, but it is certainly the most critical. Romney captured more than 60 million votes on Nov. 6. Seems like quite a few votes for one of 2012’s least influential people.
Other notable, or insignificant, people on the list include The Daily Caller‘s Tucker Carlson — because apparently being on FOX News during election night coverage means you have no sway — PBS‘s Jim Lehrer — for his lack of control over the first presidential debate — and the stragglers still committed to “occupying” Wall Street.
Outside of the political sphere, the list features some familiar faces. Even though her favorite “black Muslim” got reelected, Madonna didn’t impress the GQ editors this year. And despite his massive earworm song, Gotye also found himself among the least influential.
The list, which GQ stresses is not ranked, is pretty tongue-in-cheek, and some of them are right on target. But even though he lost, when it comes to Romney, one has to admit he had plenty of influence during 2012.
