Susan Sarandon calls War on Drugs “racist,” thinks legalizing marijuana would “save our a**”

‘Stepmom’ star Susan Sarandon thinks everyone deserves to smoke a little pot.

“I believe in individual rights,” she said on HuffPost Live last week, “I would like to see everybody be able to smoke pot. That’s a waste of our money to incarcerate all those people.”

“I’m totally a Libertarian in that sense,” she added.

The Academy Award winner called the war on drugs “ridiculous,” because it’s “wasting taxpayers’ money” and is “completely racist.”

“You’re picking up everybody at the lower level because the mandatory minimum drug laws let you trade in to get off,” she explained on the show. “So if you don’t have anyone to trade in, if you’re at the bottom, you’re going to jail — so the people at the bottom are the ones that are filling up our jails, mostly people of color.”

The actress pointed to states that have already legalized marijuana, such as Colorado, that can bring in revenue from taxing the drug.

“You would have a lot of income,” she argued. “It could completely save our a** if we just legalized marijuana.”

Sarandon’s stance on legalizing marijuana is nothing new considering Denver residents reportedly heard her voice it via robocalls last fall. Her robocalls specifically advocated for Amendment 64, The Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol Act of 2012.

Not to mention, you can catch the actress smoking the reefer in her 1998 flick ‘Stepmom’ — granted it was for medicinal purposes in the movie.

The ‘Enchanted’ star argues alcohol can lead you into more trouble than cannabis.

“You never hear anybody robbing stores when they’re too high,” she concluded.
