Burger King is likely moving its headquarters to Canada and the fast food restaurant’s apparent No. 1 fan is really not happy about it.
“Experience tells me that you just can’t get a good burger outside the United States. Certainly not one that’s been made by a foreign company. Maybe it’s because they are too cheap with the good meat, too ready to fill the thing with something else,” MSNBC Host Chris Matthews said on “Hardball” Wednesday night before launching into his explanation of the best American burger.
“Anyway, I love Burger King. It’s my favorite. It tastes like it has been grilled out back on a barbecue. They taste great plain because the meat’s great. They don’t have to bury it with a lot of mustard, ketchup and pickles so you can’t taste the burger. So, when you order one plain, they don’t go nuts like they do at some other fast food places like nobody’s ever dared to do that before. Anyway let’s get this straight. I love Burger King.”
But now the chain might be RUINING all of that.
Burger King recently purchased Canadian coffee chain and donut shop Tim Hortons. The acquisition will allow Burger King to base itself out of Canada, potentially lowering the corporation’s U.S. tax burden.
Matthews compared it to politicians who switch parties before an unsuccessful run for office. Just like those candidates, he argues, Burger King should “dance with the one that brung ya.”
But while most of Matthews’ fellow liberal are upset with the restaurant for “dodging U.S. taxes,” the MSNBC host knows his true complaint is with the loss of his favorite American burger.
“I think millions of us will say goodbye with our money,” he said. “And it will still be true. If you want a good burger, buy an American one.”
