Rick Santorum’s headed to Hollywood – well, sort of.
The former Pennsylvania senator and 2012 Republican presidential candidate announced Saturday that he will become the new CEO of EchoLight Studios, a Dallas-based production and distribution firm that focuses on faith-based, family friendly direct-to-video movies.
Santorum first announced the move on “The Huckabee Show” Saturday night.
“This is the right place and right time, and I’ve jumped in with both feet,” he told the former Arkansas governor.
The move is fitting for Santorum, who has always been a leader within the party on social and faith-related issues. A staunch opponent of abortion, Santorum often speaks of his decision not to abort two of his six children – Gabriel, who was stillborn, and Bella, who suffers from the genetic disorder Trisomy 18.
“I often say that culture is upstream from politics, and I know entertainment also can be strength and light for people who want to be uplifted and reinforced in their values,” he wrote in a release published on his Patriot Voices website. “Dallas can become the Hollywood of the faith-and-family movie market. And the keys are great content and economic success using money from all over to build out the industry and distribute an authentic product truthful to the faith in people’s lives.”
Among the films produced recently by EchoLight include “3 Day Test,” which was written and directed by “Major League’s” Corbin Bernsen, and “Welcome to Paradise.”
EchoLight’s will release its first theatrical film, “The Redemption of Henry Myers,” this fall.
