Mocking Republicans was more important than a charity concert while the Republican National Convention was going on for rock band Third Eye Blind.
The charity concert, which fundraised for Musicians on Call, was billed by the band’s Twitter as an “RNC Edition,” TheBlaze reported.
That edition involved playing less-known songs instead of their hits and asking the crowd to “Raise your hand if you believe in science.”
Epic @ThirdEyeBlind troll of RNC event. Played none of the hits, bashed GOP platform, asked “Who here believes in science?” So much booing.

Frontman Stephan Jenkins also played “Jumper” to advocate for gay rights. He hoped attendees would listen to the song in order to accept those “like my cousins who are gay into the American fabric” and said that “to love this song is to take into your heart the message and to actually have a feeling to arrive and move forward, and not live your life in fear and imposing that fear on other people.”
“You can boo all you want but I’m the motherf***ing artist up here,” Jenkins told the upset crowd.

The band had no sympathy for those who were upset by the political performance. There was also no concern about hurting the charity with their views.

@hunterw Great question. We were not, as musicians on call were well aware of who we are and our take on things (like science and rights!)

The band has become a Facebook trend thanks to the coverage.
