Finally, an individual to match the administration’s artificial intelligence.
President Obama, who has provoked criticism for his bowing habits before (see: Saudi Arabia, China), “played soccer” with and bowed to a robot that goes by ASIMO as part of his swing through Tokyo Thursday. The Honda innovation, “Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility,” is about 4 and a half feet tall, humanoid, and has some quite exaggerated dance moves.
Here’s video via ABC News of ASIMO chipping a soccer ball the president’s way:

And here’s Instagram footage from Bloomberg’s Margaret Talev of ASIMO and Obama exchanging goodbyes, including (gasp!) respectful bows:
Congratulations, Internet. Your day is done.
The encounter occurred at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, where the president, accompanied by had the opportunity to interact with other robots.
“I have to say the robots were a little scary,” he said afterward, according to the Associated Press. “They were too life-like.”
