New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd is not ready for Hillary

Liberal New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd is not ready for Hillary.

In her New York Times column on Sunday, Dowd eviscerated the former Secretary of State, insinuating that Clinton is nothing more than a liar and political opportunist.

Dowd’s fury stems from the former first lady backing away from the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a trade deal she helped President Obama push.

The TPP has earned the ire of many progressives including Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

To get in the good graces of Warren and other progressives, Clinton sided with Pelosi over Obama, despite the fact she has promoted the trade deal 45 times as Secretary of State, according to CNN.

The inability of Clinton to stick to a policy in the face of pressure by progressives, even when she formerly support a position makes her seem disingenuous.

“But as a candidate pressured by progressives like Warren and Bernie Sanders and by labor unions, she turned to Jell-O, shimmying around an issue she had once owned and offering an unpleasant reminder of why ‘Clintonian’ became a synonym for skirting the truth,” wrote Dowd.

The Times columnist wondered how Clinton can expect the trust of the people when she shapes her positions on issues such as the TPP and the Iraq War based on political opportunity.

Clinton’s inability to seem honest and genuine is why, in the latest CNN poll, a majority of voters in swing states do not find her trustworthy. It also partially explains Sen. Bernie Sanders’, Clinton’s opponent for the Democratic nomination, ascendance in New Hampshire. He is just 10 points behind Clinton in the latest poll.

Dowd called for Clinton to be more forthright and truthful rather than tactical.

That’s why Dowd says that her answer to “Ready for Hillary?” is “Not at the moment.”
