Pornhub gets into scholarships, as well as porn

Would you accept money from a leading porn site? Well, Pornhub is now offering college students a $25,000 scholarship through their new project, Pornhub Cares.

The organization claims that submissions don’t need to be pornographic. Vice-president Corey Price told the Washington Post that “if you if you’re against pornography and an anti-pornography crusader, this is probably not the scholarship for you.”

The call for submissions does acknowledge their stance on porn. “We work hard to help make millions of people feel happy every single day,” the site reads. Price also referred to Pornhub as having a “sex positive belief system.”

Nudity in a student’s entry will also not disqualify them, which will be judged by Pornhub staffers. Students who submit sex videos will not actually be disqualified either, but “will not be seriously considered.”

As Price himself realizes, the scholarship program is controversial. The Washington Post also spoke with Dawn Hawkins of the National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE). She referred to the scholarship as “an amazing and deceptive marketing tactic.”

Hawkins also released a press release on NCOSE’s website. The statement “denounces” the scholarship and called it “a blatant attempt to exploit economically vulnerable young people, and to further normalize the porn industry.”

“Pornhub is clearly using this so-called scholarship opportunity to fuel their own industry, where the #1 search term in porn is ‘teen,'” the statement also declared.

Pornhub Cares may be its own “philanthropic effort.” However, an Internet search still leads to the Pornhub website.
