Only a slight majority of millennials would date someone with opposing political views. The rest might find dating apps geared more towards Bernie Sanders or Donald Trump supporters, if either of those are their candidate of choice. There’s also a new app, CandiDate, which takes into account both sides of the political aisle, as Consumer Affairs reported.
The app is available on smart phones, and also has a web version. Upon creating an account and entering in basic information about themselves and preferences, users are asked whether they support various policy issues to do with the environment, taxes, guns, education, same-sex marriage, and abortion. From there, the site matches users with others who may find common ground.
CandiDate isn’t only for dating. It also has a section on the presidential candidates and allows users to see what politicians hold similar views, thanks to voting records from Vote Smart. Swiping left or right on a politican (think Tinder) also helps the app find potential love matches for users.
“We’re excited to launch candiDate on mobile devices and online in the midst of this very unique presidential election cycle,” said Michael Bellavia, CEO of HelpsGood, which launched the app. “All around the world, Republicans, Democrats and Independents, Millennials and seniors, are using candiDate to find their own running mate and feel the burn of love.”
The app is described as “nonpartisan, just like love” and “one of the three must-have political apps for this campaign season.”
