Wendy Davis defends ad about Greg Abbott’s disability by standing next to people in wheelchairs at press conference

Texas gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis is standing behind her Greg Abbott’s wheelchair attack ad in the most outrageous way possible. Davis called a press conference Monday where she took the stage with several supporters in wheelchairs to try and prove that she is not anti-disabled people.

These supporters spoke out in favor of Davis before the Democratic candidate took the stage and reiterated the premise of her ad.

The Daily Caller reported that she was asked if she was exploiting Abbott’s disability and Davis replied, “This ad is about one thing. And one thing only. It’s about Greg Abbott’s hypocrisy.”

Abbott, the Republican Attorney General of Texas is a paraplegic, the result of a fallen tree that crushed his spine and necessitated the insertion of two steel rods in his back 30 years ago. He is wheelchair-bound. Her ad attacks him for a lawsuit based on his injury.

“Greg Abbot rightly sought justice for himself when he sued a tree company and a homeowner and he received a multimillion dollar settlement in his suit,” she said. “And ever since, in his role as a public servant, Greg Abbott has shown time and time again that he has worked to deny that same justice to others.”

Most polls show Abbott leading Davis by more than 10 points.

The reaction to the ad has been harsh by both the right and left and Twitter erupted over the photo op with wheelchair-bound Davis supporters.

One brought up her campaign slogan, “I Stand With Wendy.”

Others just attacked the shameless nature of the press conference.

Stay classy, Wendy.
