Bernie Sanders: I can beat Hillary Clinton by taking on ‘big-money interests’

Bernie Sanders has confidence he can beat Hillary Clinton if he decides to run for president in 2016.

In a recent interview on Fusion’s “America,” host Jorge Ramos asked the Independent senator from Vermont whether or not he could triumph over Clinton.

Sanders answered by stressing the “frustration and anger” present among middle class Americans, insisting that he would be “prepared to take on the big-money interests” if elected.

“I think that there is a lot of frustration and anger among working families who in many cases are working longer hours for lower wages and yet, what they’re seeing is while their standard of living goes down, almost all their income goes to the top 1 percent and we have this obscene level of income and wealth inequality,” explained Sanders.

“Yes, I do think that if I ran, I could win,” he added.

When Ramos asked if he meant Hillary was the source of such frustration, Sanders replied in the negative but suggested that the former secretary of State would not be “out there standing with working families” as would he.

“The anger and frustration is at a situation where the middle class is declining, working people are working longer hours for lower wages, while the very wealthiest people in this country are becoming much richer,” Sanders clarified. “And, I think the American people want to see voices out there standing with working families who are prepared to take on the big-money interests.”

Though he appeared confident in his ability to beat Clinton, Sanders still isn’t sure whether he would run as an Independent or Democrat.

“I am an Independent, but I caucus with the Democrats,” said Sanders. “There are advantages and disadvantages from either approach. What I would be doing is waging a campaign which speaks to the needs of working families and lower-income people and taking on the big-money interests, which today have so much power over the politics and economics of America.”
