Lil Wayne: “I didn’t step on the flag on purpose!”

Cut Weezy some slack, guys — he didn’t mean to walk all over the American flag. Or so he says.

Just a day after footage was released showing Lil Wayne walking back and forth on the flag during the filming of a music video, the rapper tweeted about the incident, claiming it was an accident.

While the rapper cleared up speculation about whether or not the flag drop was intentional — it was — that really doesn’t make the situation any better.

First, according to the U.S. flag code, Lil Wayne’s usage of the flag is considered disgraceful, even before he stepped on it:

“The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.”

“The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way.”

Second, Lil Wayne clearly realized that he was walking directly on the flag. While his tweet shows that was not his intention during the music video shoot, he did nothing to stop it from happening at the time. The commendable thing to do would have been to stop the shoot when he realized he could not perform his ‘moves’ without walking on the American flag.

But then again — that flag should never have been on the ground anyway.
