An Iowa poll released on Thursday by Quinnpiac shows that Trump and Carson are still the top two polling candidates, with a twist. Trump is no longer the front-runner. Rather Carson is, with 28 percent support compared to Trump’s 20 percent.
The results are almost an exact reversal from a September survey also done by Quinnipac. Trump had 27 percent while Carson had 21 percent.
Trump does top the survey in other ways. Republicans consider him to be the most “no way” candidate, with 30 percent of likely Republican Caucus participants in Iowa saying they “would definitely not support” him. Twenty-one percent say the same about Jeb Bush.
Carson fares even better when it comes to what Iowa Republicans want. Twenty-eight percent say it’s most important to have a candidate who shares their values. Twenty-three percent say it’s having a candidate who is honest and trustworthy.
And Carson scores amazingly well there, with 84 percent saying he shares their values and 89 percent considering him to be honest and trustworthy.
This is likely attributed to how many Iowans are evangelical Christian, as is Carson. Trump is not. The results also reflect that, with Carson having 36 percent of support from white evangelicals while Trump only has 17 percent.
