The most recent episode of “Saturday Night Live” opened with a segment mocking “Politics Nation” host Al Sharpton and his response to the protests of the grand jury decisions in the Michael Brown and Eric Garner cases.
“This Eric Garner decision has upset me so much that, in three days, I have gained over 100 pounds,” said comedian Kenan Thompson, who played Sharpton in the opening skit.
Rejoicing in the Ferguson and Garner protests that have hindered travel and activity in many cities across the United States, SNL’s “Sharpton” smiled at the love demonstrators have shown him.
“For the first time in my life, everyone agrees with me,” he detailed. “Folks are high-fiving me, inviting me places. This must be what it feels like to be Beyonce.”
“Sharpton” also spoke to two “guests,” one of whom was a civil rights lawyer and the other a spokesman for the “brotherhood of the police” in Staten Island.
“I got my hands up already,” laughed “Sharpton” to the second guest, referencing the gesture popularized by Ferguson protesters.
