Domain names on the internet have become prime targets for trolls to antagonize the presidential candidates.
Jeb Bush, like his campaign, was an early victim of the ridicule, according to The Washington Post.
If a Bush supporter wants to donate, going to JebBush.com doesn’t help. Instead, that URL redirects visitors to Donald Trump’s campaign site. The Trump campaign has denied responsibility; apparently, a maverick Trump supporter discovered the opportunity.
Nor is Bush alone to falling victim to digital trickery.
If a Ted Cruz supporter tries TedCruzForAmerica.com, they’re redirected to a page that explains how to immigrate to Canada. A Hillary Clinton fan who clicks HillaryClinton2016.com gets a Huffington Post lookalike site that’s not so flattering. BernieForPresident.com is a poll between Bernie Sanders and Bernie Lomax, the titular (but dead) character from the 1989 movie Weekend at Bernie’s.
There’s even a RonPaul16.com page for the libertarian-inclined to induce a fourth presidential campaign for Ron Paul.
For the election cycle, those domain battles have become the norm. Usually negative toward the candidate, but sometimes nonsensical and absurd.
