Actress Emily Blunt, who recently got her U.S. citizenship, said she regretted doing so after watching the first Republican presidential debate in August.
“I became an American citizen recently, and that night, we watched the Republican debate and I thought, ‘This was a terrible mistake. What have I done?'” Blunt said according to The Hollywood Reporter.
On Jimmy Kimmel’s show last week, the actress went on to say that becoming an American citizen was “strange and disarming” and she wasn’t “entirely thrilled about it.”
“People ask me about the whole day. They were like, ‘Oh, it must have been so emotional.’ I was like, ‘It wasn’t! It was sad!’ I like being British,” Blunt said.
She also described the process of renouncing Queen Elizabeth as “typically American,” in that she was told to say it, even if she didn’t really mean it.
Blunt is promoting her upcoming movie “Sicario,” and she is known for her roles in “The Young Victoria” (2009) and “The Devil Wears Prada” (2006).
