Woman who struck husband with car for not voting in 2012 gets 3.5 years in prison

Mitt Romney wasn’t the only one hurt following the 2012 presidential election.

Holly Nicole Solomon of Mesa, Arizona, ran over her now-ex husband Daniel Solomon with their Jeep after learning he didn’t cast his ballot for GOP nominee Romney, a crime for which she was sentenced to three and a half years behind bars Thursday.

From the Arizona Republic:

Holly Nicole Solomon pleaded guilty in April to two counts of aggravated assault after previously rejecting a plea deal that would have removed the “dangerous” allegation, which gave Solomon the possibility of as many as 15 years in prison.

Solomon was sentenced Thursday morning in Maricopa County Superior Court following a hearing with Judge Joseph Kreamer.

Gilbert police said Solomon started arguing with her husband on Nov. 10, 2012, when she found out that he didn’t vote because she “believed her family was going to face hardship” as a result of Obama’s re-election. The argument escalated once her husband pulled over their Jeep and got out in a parking lot on Gilbert Road near Vaughn Avenue.

According to police, Holly chased her then-husband around the parking lot with the vehicle and eventually struck him with it.

Holly apologized during the sentencing hearing Thursday, blaming her actions on a bout of mental illness.

“I want to apologize. I still don’t have memories of that day,” she said. “I have been very sick and I am getting better.”

Unfortunately, her ex-husband suffered both physical and emotional wounds.

“I now have a scar down the center of my abdomen that is at least a foot long,” Daniel explained. “Learning to trust people, to love again is going to be very difficult for me.”
