School cancels mock election after students chant “TRUMP!”

Donald Trump is a hit with grade school students. He won statewide mock elections in Maine with high school students and Minnesota with students in grades K-12, and parents and teachers are taking notice.

An elementary school in New York cancelled their traditional mock election due to “negative rhetoric against minorities.”

What was the rhetoric in question? Well, according to Jericho Elementary school principal Glen Rogers, it may have something to do with the Republican nominee running for president.

“Teachers have said they’ve heard some kids in the cafeteria chanting ‘Trump! Trump! Trump!’ or saying they don’t want Muslims here,” Mr. Rogers told ABC News. “I mean, kids often repeat what they hear on the TV or the news, but it doesn’t mean it’s OK. We have a diverse community here. We want all our students to feel valued.”

Rogers went on to say that the mock election was cancelled to prevent minority students “from feeling uncomfortable.”

The elementary school in Centereach has decided that instead of holding a mock presidential election, they’ll hold an election for the students to vote on their favorite school lunch.

Principal Rogers continued, “One thing we’re really trying to teach the students is the differences between opinions and facts. It’s important for our students to be able to express their opinions, but it’s also important for them to be informed about it and not just repeating what they happen to hear.”

So, teachers and administrators are cool with students supporting liberal and Democratic ideas, but not anything that has to do with Trump or conservatives.

Maybe they were just afraid Clinton would lose in a landslide.
