To Americans, Thanksgiving is a savory feast. To ‘noted Englishman’ Gary Oldman, it’s a bitter pill.
“Jimmy Kimmel Live” aired a comedy bit Tuesday night of the “Batman” actor and well-spoken Londoner chastising the United States for celebrating its free heritage with an indulgent annual meal. Kimmel segued into the pre-taped video by pointing out that some Brits may resent the U.S. for having “this big divorce party every November” — and Oldman clearly is among the offended.
“This year as you consume your annual feast of Thanksgiving, consider this: you’re hurting our feelings,” Oldman says. “Not only did you flee our homeland to avoid paying taxes you now pay so willingly, but you rub our faces in it with a big, fat food orgy. We get it! You’re thankful to be rid of us. But guess what? We’re glad you’re not British anymore.”
Oldman then goes on to describe the Pilgrims with a couple of barely intelligible and unflattering idioms, and sends a clear-carved message to the American people:
“F–k off! And good riddance, you … you … you bunch of … Honey Boo Boos!”
It’s after that exclamation that Oldman tears into a full Thanksgiving dinner laid on a table before him, beating dishes with a turkey leg, and slinging mashed potatoes and stuffing about the room.
