Rumsfeld on Benghazi: “Clinton is the person responsible”

Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld has joined in the choir of people who blame former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for the tragedy in Benghazi.

During an interview with NewsMaxTV host Steve Malzberg that appeared on Breitbart TV Thursday, Malzberg played back an interview of Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.). Issa said that according to his investigation, the Under Secretary of State, Patrick Kennedy, was at fault.

“If the United States is going to put people in overseas posts, they have an obligation to see that they are properly protected,” Rumsfeld said in response.

Rumsfeld said that Benghazi was not the responsibility of those lower on the chain of command. He said that Clinton is the one to blame for her irresponsibility in failing to protecting the Ambassador when she knew that al-Queda posed a major threat.

“Our people knew there were al-Qaeda threats, and they not only did not protect them, but they didn’t pull them out,” Rumsfeld told Malzberg. “That, in my view, is a neglect of important responsibilities. The idea that it falls to someone down the line, I think, is a misunderstanding. Clearly, the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is the person responsible.”

Over the past year, Clinton’s narrative has shifted in response to what happened in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012. Shortly after the attack, Clinton used the quotable ‘what difference does it make?’ remark when being questioned on whether or not the attack was terrorism or in response to a YouTube video.

Recently, Clinton said that what happened in Benghazi is her biggest regret from her time served as Secretary of State — a decision that was made based off of “imperfect information.”
